Looking at buying a new set of Alloys for my car, and had initially intended to buy 18's, but after looking at many of the forums most people seem to be suggesting 17s and lowering the suspension.

If I go with the 17s, can someone please advise me on how much I should look to lower the car by in order to make this modification successful?

Please bear in mind that I am an absolute novice and have no previous experience of such modifications.

Many thanks.

Good car :) Er im not sure but not too low otherwise you get bump steer round corners & the tyres rub etc. Personally ive always liked my wheels on mine the standards are 16" but would poss lower it so that the arch is a fingers distance from the tyre edge

To give you an idea on what you're looking at with lowered C2's on 16's and 17's I have Spax RSX coilovers, they were fitted to my VTR previously now on the VTS and are almost fully down at the front :

on 16" VTS rims:

on 17" alloys:

Neither rubbed or handled badly, but looked rather excellent imo ! :D

70mm but u will need new bump stops. iv also been looking into it,

also if u have wide kit (or at least archs) then u can go more then 100mm drop. or as sag did, slam it so ur mm from the floor!
