    Default Brake Lights Not Working

    Hi guys,

Little help needed if possible. My brake rear brake lights on each side of the car are not working, though the center brake light on the spoiler is ok.

Tried replacing bulbs, brake light switch and disconnecting the battery for a good 30 mins but still no joy, any suggestions?

    Car is a 2006 C2 VTs

    Cheers

    Dan

Do you have any fault warnings? Fuses ok?

    Hi Sebastian,

I do have a fault warning, when starting the car I get “brake lights faulty”. Pervously when I have had a blown bulb the faultmessage has indicated the effected side but now I get the message as above.

Checked the fuses behind the glove box and all ok.

If it is not a fuse or brake switch and it affected both rear stop lights at the same time then not much else to do other than checking ground and wiring integrity and then move to the BSI which might be tricky to diagnose. Maybe someone had similar issue and could share some thoughts.

any other lights on rear not working? If they are all ok earth is ok, I would the put force on the positive plug wire on lamp cluster (if it does not work at this point check bulbs/cluster and contacts) and work back (towards front) untill you loose it then do same on other side at the point of loss you will hopefully eliminated alot of the system.

It could be that your bulb holders have gotten wet and corroded. Have you checked the connection to the bulb? although it seems strange that they'd both go at the same time.

If they are both not working, I would be more inclined to start with the switch or a fuse...
