Thread: Spinning spoiler bolt

    Angry Spinning spoiler bolt

So I took one bolt off the spoiler okay. The other loosened, now just spins...

Now the spoiler is loose. I can't tighten the bloody bolt.

Anyone have any idea what I'm supposed to do? Does the spoiler come apart at all?

    Argh!

Since you haven't had a reply, I'll take a crack at this! Have you tried using loctite? I don't know a great deal, but I'm sure thats good for strengthening threads?
Feel free to call me a moron if this is complete crap xD

Could you drill out the current bolt and put a new bolt in maybe? No idea what size they are though as never attempted to remove the spoiler before I'm afraid

Tricky, sounds like the metal plug in the spoiler has come away from the fibreglass and that's what is spinning, no real fox for this, you might have to get a hack saw blade inbetween the spoiler and the boot glass and cut through the bolt, then look at replacing or repairing once off however I don't think you could easily replace it, one thing to try first is to take the other bolt completely out and ask somebody to angle the spoiler so as to put pressure on the metal plug to try stop it spinning, but don't go too far as you could smash the glass

Meant to say it'd be hard to repair, it would be eassy to replace it

Try cut the bolt head off with a dremel. Doubt you'd be able to fix the threaded hold in the spoiler now so would just bond it in place with stickoflex when you come to refitting

Thanks guys. Contemplating drilling a biggish hole to get to the bolt. Going to vinyl it anyway so I can fix up the hole after.

I'll post up some pics and let you know how I get on when I get round to actually drilling.

    Default Spinning spoiler bolt

If you undo the good one then apply pressure to the spoiler away from the tailgate whilst turning the bolt the insert is turning in , it should come out and the hole in the rear tailgate glAss is big enough for the insert to go through , complete with bolt
Remove the trim on the damaged side of the spoiler and drill through the old hole where insert was , you can get a 6mm threaded insert in b & q to go in ? Glue it in place and refit surround
You need a longer bolt with a flat and rubber sealing washer under it to refit and do not over tighten
