Thread: GT Turbo (2351)

  1. #1

    Default GT Turbo (2351)

Hey all, there will be some who know me through other forums and some who dont, but i thought id get a build thread going on here so people can see what im doing

This is going to be a bit of a big post so here goes........

I bought my GT 3 years or so ago now, with the intention of keeping it pretty standard, that went out of the window pretty quick, but here it is back when it looked like an off roader....

First couple of things to go one were a pretty shit inducton kit.... lol, and a Supersprint 4-1 mani, and some -50mm Springs.

At some point after that i fitted a set of newman PH3's and took it down to red dot for a remap, According to their rollers it made just shy of 150bhp.

After trying lowering it on a set of extra low Cituning springs i decided pretty quickly it wasnt enough, as they barely dropped it. So i invested in a set of FK silverlines.

Next i made a new induction kit, something better than the crap i threw on to start with.

    Bit of caliper painting.....

Up to that point was just before FCS 2010, and the car was looking like this. At some point before this id fitted a sportex 2" exhaust system.

Took it on track at FCS for a bit of ragging, and Took some decent chunks out of my Toyo proxes on the horrrible surface

    Bye Bye Gti - 6

After a while i started to get bored with the red / white look of the car so got hold of a set of 17" OX superlagerras that were in need of a bit of a refurb, and went for the black wheels look, and painted my rear valance at the same time. Sandding multispoke 17's takes a lot longer than youd think!! :P

    Sanded and masked up.....

    Bit of Etch primer...

Give me chance.. it takes ages copying and pasting all the links, lol.

The coilies are about 5mm from the stops on the front, and ive taken the adjusters out altogether on the rear. But TBH its a bit much, the exhaust catches the back axle on speedbumps.

I think the next thing to go on was the porche 4 pot calipers and 306 gti-6 discs, along with the inside of the headlights sprayed black.

Went and took a few decent photos of it sincce its little makeover....

Something id had in the pipeline for a while came next, I bought a DTA standalone ECU long before i got to this point, but as i was planning on fitting and mapping it myself there were quite a few things i needed to get and learn first.

Anyways this was it with it loom made up ready to go on the car..

And the gauges id be needing when it was on fitted to the car...

This is where i staarted work on my other engine, but ill get to that later.

The car is only recently back on the road, as towards the end of last year the clutch release bearing decided it couldnt handle a full throttle launch using the DTA's launch control and exploded, taking half of the presssure plate with it.....

During the time the car was off the road i fitted a full set of GMC engine mounts and a gearbox i was saving for my new engine, thats fitted with a Quaiffe ATB LSD.

Heres some pics of how the car is as of last weekend........

    GMC engine mount.....

PaxoPaxoPaxoPaxo cable throttle body using my own adapter plate and cable setup.

Random engine pic.. Note : Vauxhall Coipack FTW!!!

    DTA ECU fitted under dash......

    Pic of mani being made.......

    Turbo Mounted to block .....

Another pic of mani, 38mm External gate fitted....

Oil cooler, Intercooler and boostpipe material...

Next came Getting the Engine built, So the block was competely stripped and steamed, ready for the bore to be glaze busted, ( no need for a rebore as its was only a 10k engine)...

    Pistons and Rods...

    Crank in on ACL bearings...

    Pistons being fitted...

This is where i hit a big problem, the new thicker H-beam rods were hitting the block as the crank turned, locking the engine completely. So it had to com back to peices and i took material out of the bottom of the bore with a barrel grinder untill i had enough clearance for the crank to turn freely. Problem solved back on with the build... lol

Turbo oil return welded into the sump....

Keep it going. Should be a very quick car when complete. Only caution I'd have is please don't map it yourself. Itll cost you a he'll of a lot of money if you don't map 100% right.
