Looking to pick up a cheap C2, probably 04 plate for around £3-4K. I'm a bit torn at the moment for either a 1.6 VTR or a 1.4 model.
Few of my conclusions thus far:
1.4 - Nippy, upgrade from what I own now. Diesel is very economical but barely any cheap ones around for sale.
1.6 - Costs more to insure, 21 with 3 years no claims but it appears that insurance is another £200-£300 more. Not sure on paddle options but don't like GT version. Also fuel is a worry.
Anyone help me out?
welcome. sounds like you made your own mind up though with your views!

Probably shouldn't be so negative, but I certainly like the look of the VTR but I want economy as well as I do a lot of town driving. The VTR has being my favourite all along though, but just worried the insurance could be a problem. Whats the tax like?
i think its £120 but im sure someone will confirm.
Why dont you go for a 1.4 furio or 1.4 vtr they look the same as the 1.6

Whats the difference between the Furio and VTR 1.4? Any features that are lost compared to a 1.6? If so, like you say I might look into that.
they are the same, citroen just changed the name. there are even a few 1.4 vts c2s around. alloys arnt standard on the 1.4s but most opt for them or you can pick them up off ebay etc anyway

Thanks, might get checking for the 1.4 then. I currently have a 1.3 Fiesta Encore P reg, and its locks are knackered. Horrible colour as well, car was nippy but moves like a tank. Hoping to improve on looks and of course fuel consumption in the same move.

I'm paying £550 fully comp with 3 years NCB at the mo on my Fiesta and that was cheapest quote. Guess that's what happens living in Stoke-on-Trent!

Narrowed it down to the 1.4 now. Is there a manual Diesel or Petrol that is sporty looking or is it just the semi-Furio?
you can get semi auto and manual furios

Cheers. Tough looking for a decent Diesel under £4K, is the Petrol 1.4 pretty good on economy. I know the figures can say all they like, but from experience of those driving them is what matters!
depends how you drive it i guess, when i was 18 and had a furio i got around 350 miles from a tank but i wasnt exactly driving for economy back then. Im driving a diesel furio at the min and get over 500 miles on a tank

Bit of a twist tonight, I went to check a VTR out for £3500 after another one fell through which was a 1.4 Furio also at £3500.
However that is back on the market, both are 29K, the VTR was great but only had 2 months MOT and one month tax whereas the other 1.4 has 12 months MOT and 6 months tax left which is a bonus.
Just the tough decision as both are mint really. My insurers won't let me swap cars as the underwriter won't allow a 1.6 and there other quote was 1000K otherwise I have to pay £60 to leave which could sway things.
I wasn't able to test drive the VTR as wasn't insured but my Dad did with myself as passenger and he said it was slightly slow in auto mode but the paddles seemed the way forwards.
Any advice?!

ignore the cost... see what your prefer when you drive it. you need to be happy with the car
I had a fiesta flight before my VTS
VTS! You won't regret.

Well I made a decision and opted for this:

Managed to get them down to £3600, mint car, looks brand new. Maybe a 1.4, but my wallet needs to be a bit tighter after my work announced job cuts today!
air con and the folding rear seats, good find :)

Insurance is £550 on the 1.4. My current insurer though would cost me £188 more on top of £544 which I don't really wanna pay.
