Anyone know anything about Citroen AX's?.. just wanting know how much work there would be to drop a Saxo VTR/S engine in?.. can get a AX GT for around 500 and engine/box off a vts for around 300.. so its got me thinking :P

what i love about the AX was the "airfix" build quality of the day. Great idea you may be planning. It was always a good handling car.
ive had 13 of them and theyre very easy to do the conversion mate.
you can drop a full VTR engine into the bay, or mate it with the GT engine (iirc its the vtr bottom end and vtr head but i cant be sure ive always just 16v mine)
very easy to do, if your running it for speed on acceleration, try get a saxo or ax 1.1 box, dont go for the 1.0 its only got 4 speed and is on its knees at 110 at the best of times.
if your after more information give me a shout or check out www.axownersclub.com

p.s. i may be buying another one in the summer so let me know how yours comes on if you get it mate! i love them theyre great as long as you can see past the shoddy panels inside that rattle like mad!
heres some pictures of my old ones.... if your looking for uprated parts etc look out GMC motorsports, or check out AXO16V on youtube, and see how their parts on a customers DIY built engine goes, that car is a legend in the ax scene, shame its not around any more :(
my garage constantly looked like this with my spares for it, thats only about a 1/4 of the bits btw the ax in the garage there was full to the brim with spares and all around it too!

wow quite a collection youv'e had lol, Its an idea im tinkering with to be honest, theres a AX Gti going cheap, friend of a friend sorta thing i do like the AX's but fancy something abit quicker so thats where i looked up about VTR/VTS engine's.. im very tempted tbh, that AXO16V shifts mind ;)
is it a gt or a gti your getting mate? the gt is a carb'd version of the 1.4 TU engine and the GTi is an injection engine, either one its easy enough to change to vtr's with.
aye tams old ax fairly went, supercharged VTS bottom end with a pug 206 head, all home built and rapido isnt the word! after 8 years or so the shell was absolutely past it having been welded god knows how many times to keep its strength.
if you can afford it, go VTS, its so much more powerful mate tbh and the price for all the bits isnt that much different.

Jessops live in newcastle??? Seen a clio knocking about with reg Jsssop p or somthing like that lol.
i think so mate, he's got a white ax runabout, an ax LHD rallye with a vts turbo engine being built, and he used to own a 16v forte shelled one too he just not long sold, could well be him, he hangs about with a lad with a white 5 turbo if its him.

I was told its a GTi but someone else told me it was a GT either way not too bothered, Going to view it today hopefully its alright condition wise with no major work to be carried out on it as i want something that nots gonna cost me a fortune so i can spend some on getting VT* engine etc :)

just looked on pistonheads theres a 5 door AX GT going just up the road from me for 699.. but the 5 door looks naff
super rare the GT5 mate, mk1 gt5's are becoming so hard to get, a mint concourse one went for £1800 in ireland last year to a lad on the club... just as quick as a 3 door as well believe it or not!
