Hi People i am with Pipex for my internet, i have been with them for about 19/20 months now and i am wanting to upgrade / change.
i am on 1meg with 256 upload paying テつ」23.44 p/m, they say i use around 11GB a month on average.
ive gave them a call today for my Mac code so i can swap to another ISP.
they offerd me 2 months free service on their 8 meg line (which i am wanting) after then its テつ」19.99 with a 15GB cap useage on there. or their unlimited line at 24.99 PM
I have see tiscali unlimited at テつ」17.99 p/m and oranges at テつ」19.99 P/m but includes their live box (dont need it)
My Previouse ISP was Freeserve / wanadoo (Now orange) so i am considering going back with them as i never had any problems.
give me your opnion on orange / tiscali.
Reason for change is Xbox live, i just cant host 3 people or more before it dies, i keep getting killed on gears of war because my connection is lagging more compaired to them.
Dont give me none of this AOL Crap as i would rather kill my self than go with them!
Can you help me decide

I'm afraid i've not used the isp's you said but i found bulldog unlimited for テつ」15.99 a month with 8mb line speed really good. Never had a problem with it.

I would say any but orange. Worst ISP ever. My mate is with them and he has had loads of issues. I am with UKonline and they have been spot on
If you had no problems with your current ISP and they have offered you a decent upgrade i would stay with them, nothing worse then changing and getting loads of problems, and i agree AOL are pants lol.
Depending on if you think 15 GB is enough go with the 19.99 or spend that extra pound and just make sure you get your moneys worth.

テつ」17.99 p/m Tiscali (Unlimited 8meg)
Really. Im paying 1p short of テつ」18 for Virgin.net 8meg (only get 4meg! due to the area) but its limited to 6gig - might look to move that.

Whats that mean / do ?

BT Wholesale
THE ADSL BROADBAND AVAILABILITY CHECKER
For Telephone Number 01246 86**** on Exchange CLAY CROSS
Your exchange is ADSL enabled, and our initial test on your line indicates that your line should be able to have an ADSL broadband service that provides a line rate up to 2Mbps.
Our test also indicates that your line should be able to support a potential ADSL Max broadband line rate of 4.5Mbps or greater.
The actual ADSL Max line rate supportable will be determined during the first 10 days of use, after which time the highest stable rate possible will be set.
If you decide to place an order, a further test will be performed to confirm if your line is suitable for the service you wish to purchase.
Thank you for your interest.
Note: If you have an ISDN or Home Highway service connected to this number and you wish to purchase Broadband ADSL, this can be arranged through your Service Provider. You will only be able to keep one of your ISDN / Home Highway telephone numbers - generally you can choose any of your numbers but there are some rare exceptions. If you have an existing Broadband ADSL service and wish to change service providers then please contact both your new and existing service provider to have this service transferred. If you do not know who the current Service Provider is, please contact your new Service Provider, who would be able to help you to resolve this issue.
thats what i get on the checker.

It seems you do not have LLU enabled yet on that exchange so it looks like a MAX package upto 8mb (4.5mb according to that is the max you will get)
I would avoid both Tiscali and Orange...
Do you want to avoid a 12 month contract or are you not fussed?
BrammeR
22-01-2007, 04:42 PM
Not too fussed tbh danny, but i am getting really tempted by thr 2 month free with my current isp pipex.

Danny
22-01-2007, 04:51 PM
be careful, ive read that pipex are going to be taken over so that when the troubles start.
ive been searching for a new provider for a couple of months as im wanting an LLU ISp with speeds of upto 16mb :)
theres sky (a few negatives regarding getting connected, not speeds) and BE who are also good but have to pay to connect

Madasafish are quite good too but has a 12 month contract...

i dont mind a 12 or 18 month contract, as i will be living at home with my mum and dad for a few more years yet.
aslong as they are reliable dont keep booting me, ive been booted about 3 or 4 times today since dinner time, starting to get on my nerves now, esp when i am on xbox live.
Ide prefer an unlimited package up to 8 meg (SADSL / ADSL2 Would be nice ;))
Looking at DSL Zone Danny. Ive looked at madasafish, seems good, but a gay name :|
Bram
Danny
22-01-2007, 05:18 PM
lmao @ gay name.... you should be more fussed about the service mate lol
you wont find many actual unlimited packages, most have some kind of FUP (Fair Use Policy) unless you pay for a business package..
have a look at UKFSN..massive off peak allowances they have good home packages and a business package for under 30 quid
home - http://www.ukfsn.org/home/internet/adsl/maxallowance.html
business - http://www.ukfsn.org/business/internet/adsl/maxallowance.html

thats who i am looking at atm, good reviews on that guid link you gave me, there 30GB package seems good :)
home max 30 is the one i am looking at, seems good price for what you get, a 30GB cap is more than enough, ide be more than happy with 20+
Any one here use "uk free software network" as an isp?
Bram
Danny
22-01-2007, 05:28 PM
its unlikely most have even heard of it mate, ive found the unknown ISP's are far better than the so called big guns (AOL< NTL etc etc)
30GB Peak and 300gb off peak mate Weekends and after 10pm).. all for 19,99 WOW! :D
BrammeR
22-01-2007, 05:34 PM

We are an Entanet reseller: www.freeola.com like ukfsn.
Our package is similar to theirs however our 30Gb peak and 300Gb off peak package is テつ」14.99 a month for the first 3 months (which is the contract period) and テつ」24.99 after that. We offer a free static I.P and 8 optional free i.p addresses (5 of which are useable) Plus you will know there will be a C2 parked in the company carpark for your ISP.

haha, great advertising.. :P
that works out more than the 19.99 with UKFSN doesnt it?
chekout sky broadband, apparantly they do good deals. Dont go with tiscali, the service levels are very poor.

テつ」17.99 a month, but テつ」40 set up charge :|
that UKFSN seems to be the most tempting atm

We offer telephone support aswel as email support. It will only become more that that provider after 6 months.
I have tiscali 8 meg.. service or connectivity has never been an issue with me. The longest I've had to not restart my router was about 4 weeks once.
i get orange broadband free wi my fone contract :)

I would recommend Tiscali, they're friendly on the phone too (only when you get their UK call centre, after 4 rings you get the one in India and you may as well hang up).

www.adslguide.org
I use Orange as i get iut free with my contract, and i also pay an extra テつ」5 for unlimited downloads, and free calls to landlines and orange mobiles.
No problems so far, touch wood.
Check for port encryption because alot of ISP's are slowing download speeds at peak rates to 1 kb/s for P2P / Torrent downloads. You can get around it, but it takes some work. Pipex do this as do many others. Orange haven't yet.
Also, remember alot of them state it is 'Unlimited Downloads' but there is always a fair usage plan. So if your always downloading, etc they can ask you for more money. It's in the T&C's. Read these carefully.

Just been on the phone to order my 4.5meg line (up to 8 meg) with pipex, but there saying i can only get 2.5 meg, WFT? i check on BT Checker jonbby like i did other day (which said 4.5) now says 2.5, but my mate that lives accross the road (litlery) canm get 6-->8 meg and about 30 meters from their house can get 5-->8 meg, WTF is going on?
Can any one shead some light on this?
Ive called bt and they was not very helpful at all.

its not just where you live bramme that depends on speeds, any number of things can cause a slow line from long telephone/ethernet extensions to filters to your router stats etc etc

Before i had ADSL i have ISDN, Which was BT Home highway, i had to have 2 phone numbers, ive put my other phone number in and that says i can get 5-->8 meg :S
i had the ISDN Box put next to were my PC is now, when bt removed this to put adsl in, then removed the isdn box and put a bt phone box at the bottom.
i had to splash out a lot of money for them to come and fit isdn and get it removed sad.gif
Ive also checked that all my mates that live accrtoss the road run on the same exchange, is it worh me upgrading my ISP or shall i retract my Mac code for now?
