View Full Version : Fiat Seicento. Project WTF.

Phill106

ok so i was bored one day and decided i wanted a track car, but not just any track car, something that when it goes past you, you think WTF! so i did a little bit of research and found that the little fiats are track monsters. just from the fact that they are so light they can keep up with and pass scoobys and evos on the tight tec corners. obv left for dead on the str8s tho. so i found myself a fue cinqs but i didnt really like the shape of them they were abit too boxy. so after abit more digging i then found a seicento. £250 i thort bargin, its a little less boxy so i went to view and collect but then found it had a monumental oil leak. so my little 1.1 c2 was called into action to pull the little fiat home. it did it with no problems at all and then had a good scout all over the new car.

its a Fiat Seicento 1.1 Sproting. 74k, shel is solid and engine is also in good condition but nvm cos thats going. Fue little niggles with paint work but nothing that cant be fixed with minimal effort.

http://i306.photobucket.com/albums/nn266/phill1312/DSC00137.jpg

http://i306.photobucket.com/albums/nn266/phill1312/DSC00138.jpg

http://i306.photobucket.com/albums/nn266/phill1312/DSC00139.jpg

http://i306.photobucket.com/albums/nn266/phill1312/DSC00143.jpg

http://i306.photobucket.com/albums/nn266/phill1312/DSC00142.jpg

so my plan spec is.

Swop the 1.1 for a 1.2 from a p60 punto.
use the P75 cam.
Gsr induction,
Bigger 40mm Throttle body, 30mm standard
Custom mani (as non of the standard ones fit)
cat back,
Front brakes from a Punto GT3 Turbo,
Rear brake conversion from drums to disks, also from a Uno Turbo.
Swop the 5 speed gear box for a 6speed box.
Strip out the rear seats ect,

The guys from the fiat forums using similar setups are pulling well into the 70-80 bhp mark, some even getting above that just short of 90. the same engine also has a quite handy turbo conversion which may be a option for the future.

The Build.

so the 1st step was to fix the oil leak and im pleased to say all it was was a cracked oil filter. so quick swop and a top up with oil and now i have a working car. next day i took it for a spin round the block and i can see what people were tlking about with these cars. they r just so light its amazin lol.

vid of it running,

http://s306.photobucket.com/albums/nn266/phill1312/?action=view&current=MOV00003.flv

right so next job is to fix the back bumper that is hanging off. so removed the old bumper and went to scrap yard and got myself this.

http://i306.photobucket.com/albums/nn266/phill1312/DSC00154.jpg

after abit of a clean up and a very quick prime on a quick repair, its ready for paint.

http://i306.photobucket.com/albums/nn266/phill1312/DSC00017.jpg

i also got some spax springs and dampers, should lower it 40mm. got them for £80 bargin. they should make sure it stays alot leveler when on the track compared to the standard set up.

http://i306.photobucket.com/albums/nn266/phill1312/DSC00012.jpg

http://i306.photobucket.com/albums/nn266/phill1312/DSC00013-1.jpg

http://i306.photobucket.com/albums/nn266/phill1312/DSC00014-1.jpg

as you can see they obv needed abit of a clean up. so got the drill and wire brush out and some nice hammeright paint.

http://i306.photobucket.com/albums/nn266/phill1312/DSC00015-1.jpg

http://i306.photobucket.com/albums/nn266/phill1312/DSC00016.jpg

so that really it so far, iv got alot of other planns happening soon but atm im just buying bits. on there way to me is the new block and a fue mods for that. also need to find a punto 75 cam but they are like gold dust.

another update tomoro when iv cleaned up and sorted out all my brake upgrades that iv recived.

Comments welcome but if ur gunna start asking whats the point then save your breath cos uv obv missed the point lol.

liking the effort mate.. but still its not really gonna go past many people who are gonna think "WTF" with only 70-80 bhp i know its small but..??.. :s

there was a black one on ebay a few weeks ago with a 2.0 redtop in pushing over 200bhp.. now that was something :P

keep up the effort though im sure it will be intersting

yh but when that comes to a corner its screwed, fightin the torque all day and it understeared very badly.

its all about power to weight, i know its not gunna be the fastest thing out there but if it only weighs 750kg standard (compared to the c2s over a tonne) and full of fluids, its not limited to 80bhp, anyway this is just the 1st engine so i can learn what to do. iv been told the uno turbo block slides str8 in as well...

Should be a great first car to dab in and get comftable and the up side is if you fuck anything up there pretty cheap to replace/sort :)

and he did say its a track car not a drag car.

Keep us posted phil, this could be quite interesting.

i understand that, theres just better cars out there for the same money you could have started with and have more power to start with :)

Phill106
19-11-2009, 12:58 PM
but "other" cars arent as fun lol. and the little fiats are easier to work on then say a golf or a escort. anyway i got good memorys of these cars since my grandad had one and hammered it everywhere..

Phill106
19-11-2009, 06:28 PM
well after a fue hours of confusion as to what i was actually doing i finally got everything stripped down and cleaned up. i also learned 2 thing, 1, brake fluid burns when it gets into cuts, and 2, that i have almost everything i need for the conversion apart from some flexi hoses and new disks and pads.

http://i306.photobucket.com/albums/nn266/phill1312/DSC00001-1.jpg

gave everything a good wire brush and a quick rince down. the rear hubs im going to be putting new wheel bearings in because 1 fell apart when i was removing so might as well do the lot while its all out and easy to get to. all 4 calipers seem in good condition, everything was free and all boots are intact and fine so im not going to compleatly strip them down till next winter.

so now all i need in the new engine, one day next week im going to go down and get it cos arranging postage is starting to get on my tits.

also going to have another go at spraying the back bumper next week so that can go back on and ill have abit more room to move.

Phill106
29-11-2009, 08:02 PM
after my 760 mile round trip this week i came home with alot of nice goodys.

i got some 14" alloys so the wheels wont foul on the brakes after i do the conversions and upgrades. tho i did end up bringing a fue more home then i expected.

http://i306.photobucket.com/albums/nn266/phill1312/DSC00178-1.jpg

got a p75 cam and standard pully.

http://i306.photobucket.com/albums/nn266/phill1312/DSC00175-1.jpg

also got a spacer for the exhaust so when i do the engine conversion the exhaust wont foul on the sump.

http://i306.photobucket.com/albums/nn266/phill1312/DSC00177.jpg

also finaly picked up the p60 lump, did abit of work on it 2night as its comeeing apart with little resistance, hope it goes back together as easy lol.

http://i306.photobucket.com/albums/nn266/phill1312/DSC00173.jpg

also got a uno inlet mani as this will flow alot better, the reason it flows better is because in the original mani the air has to go around 2 90 degree bends befor it gets to the head, see top mani,

where as the uno mani has a gradual curve where the air can get to the head with less resistance. see mani on bottom of pic.

http://i306.photobucket.com/albums/nn266/phill1312/DSC00179.jpg

one thing i have notice tho is that the original mani actually has wider pipes. if you look at this pic youll see that with the original gasket, whiich is the same size as the holes in the head, has a small amount of silver around the centre,

http://i306.photobucket.com/albums/nn266/phill1312/DSC00182-1.jpg

now compare this to the uno inlet mani, with the same gasket on you can see there is alot more silver showing then on the first one, this suggests that the uno inlet is therefor smaller. im going to be getting the uno inlet machined so the holes will be around 2mm wider each. this again should help it flow alot better.

http://i306.photobucket.com/albums/nn266/phill1312/DSC00181.jpg

will be hearing back tomoro about the lightened flywheel and throttle body im having machined, so may be another update then. going to give the block a good clean as well tomoro.

you should have just stripped the C2 out and messed around with that

Phill106

why? whole point in getting another car was so the c2 can still be on the road. and ill get more power from this then i would my c2.

Nathan_c2
29-11-2009, 09:04 PM
you could have just made the C2 a track car and still had it on the road tho, and uve done an engine transplant in the fiat so why not do that in the C2 ?

PinkEmily
29-11-2009, 09:15 PM
ahh leave him be. Its just a little project. :)

C2Gavi
29-11-2009, 09:19 PM
because if he damages or destroys anything in the C2 it will cost more to replace. the Fiat is a cheaper car and as phil said alot of the parts are universal in the fiats and its a project so he can learn more about engines etc.

scuderia91
29-11-2009, 10:22 PM
plus he cant be driving the c2 if its having work done, whereas while the fiat is off road having work done hes still got the c2

yes your right i could have.... but i dont want to make my c2 a track car. and why would i want to do an engine transplant in my c2? im quite happy with 450 miles to a tank on a run with my car atm.

nathan obv u ether havent read the previous posts and have just jumped in or ur stuggling to understand them so ill try put it abit simpler. its a project car, a toy, abit of fun, 11 out of 12 months itll prob not even be getting used. for normal driving ill use my main car the c2, and this for track days and such. im doing it to teach myself how to do alot of thing thats iv never done befor. ie spraying, welding, removing/fitting engines, fitting cams as well as what ever else comes along.

Nathan_c2

.... if u understand

Nathan_c2
29-11-2009, 10:37 PM
i said that cos i think that would be better than the fiat, you could learn the skills by messing around with the C2, parts you can get cheap aswell, granted not as cheap as them fiat ones but still

Phill106
29-11-2009, 10:47 PM
lets brake it down a min lol,

u have 2 cars to choose from,

your going to choose to use the smaller, older, unreliable, less confortable, less economical, more expensive insuranced car as a daily drive?

and take apart a more complex, newer, which mostly needs citroen computers to code things, and is more expensive for parts car? not to menchen the c2 is worth over 10x the resale amount of the fiat...

Nathan_c2
29-11-2009, 10:56 PM
i just wouldnt have bought the fiat in the 1st place, i would have saved my money and spent it on the C2 or not even bothered. the C2 didnt need any new parts, stripping a car out is free anyway. thats just what i would have done personally, not having a go or out. aslong as you have fun and learn things along the way then thats fantastic

abit of a update...

i tryed to bring the seicento to my house last night, as its currently at a house i rent out. i tryed to start her up and she wouldnt turn over, so went to get the jump leads and they werent there. i then went to get my bettery charger, found it but not the extenchen lead so i couldnt use that ether! so i thought ok then ill bump it, tryed to push it out of the yard and the handbrake was stuck, here we go i thought, i pushed and pushed and got about 1m into the back lane, so i had to admit defeat and phone for back up. the gfs uncal turned up with a well used set jump leads, gave them a quick file to clean them up then jumped the car with no problems, left her to tick over a little bit. after couple mins of talking and seeing him out i came back and she was still ticking over and running nicely, went to pull away and the drum wouldnt let go, so i kept it at 3k revs and pulled off, i flew out of the yard and the wheel still wouldnt let go, i tore up and down the back lane with the one wheel still locked up and nothing would budge, at this point the clutch was smoking so bad it looked like a small fire was under the bonnet, so i gave it a min to cool down then drove it, still with one wheel locked up, back into the yard. locked up and went home to get some tools, i came back and took the wheel off, gave the drum a good bashing, still nothing. so i tryed to take the drum off wouldnt move at all... after about a hour of swearing, bashing, bending and more swearing the drum finaly let go, then was a simple case of giving the inside of the drum a quick scuff up with some 100grit and taking the brake shoes pads off the shoes so its bear metal onto the drums. chucked the drum back on then the wheel back on and its fine, spinning nicely. i then checked i didnt leave the handbrake on again and locked up and went home for a well deserved crispy duck. and all this after only 6 weeks of standing.

going to have another try 2night to bring the car over here. hopefully it will go better this time, making sure i have jump leads this time tho lol.

well im glad to say it was alot more productive then last night. got the car over here and have started with the strip down ready to drop the engine out.

http://i306.photobucket.com/albums/nn266/phill1312/DSC00185.jpg

also went to drop the trottle body and inlet mani off to be enlarged ect. there was a fue other customers cars outside when i turned up and when i walked inside was another 2 rally cars getting engine rebuilds.

time for a update.....

well 1st off after a phone call to jenvey i recived these.....

http://i306.photobucket.com/albums/nn266/phill1312/DSC00188.jpg

they are now with the guy doing the throttle body and mani, which should be ready soon,

15/12/09....

cant find any VHT green paint so am gunna go try get some mixed up. also GSR has kindly ordered me some specialy coloured silicone for an induction and some other hoses for around the engine bay.

FINALLY got the wheels off the front :yay: , looks like very good tyres on them, couple look brand new others must have about 6mm left on them, just a shame i cant use them!!

plodded on with the front end, radiator is fully off just stripping down for the fan to be swopped over to the new one. battery is out, expantion tank is also off for its clean up. throttle body is loose and ready to be tied up out of the way, gunna leave it on till after the new engine is in so i know where all the tubes go, just to be on the safe side. exhaust mani and down pipe is also off.

http://i306.photobucket.com/albums/nn266/phill1312/DSC00189.jpg

http://i306.photobucket.com/albums/nn266/phill1312/DSC00190.jpg

so not long now to go till the engine is ready to be dropped out. couple things to take off and some to swop onto the 1242 block then its full steam ahead.

16/12/09

im glad to say very productive couple hours on the car today.

i finished off preping the engine to be dropped out, just need to remove drive shafts, remove a water pipe on the back of the inlet mani, remove a plug on the starter motor thats under the intake mani and in abit of a bad place to get to. also need to dissconnect all the gear linkages but i had a try and they wouldnt come off, didnt want to force them off incase i brake anything. any tips will be helpful, Almost at the point of no return. :omfg:

also glad to say iv started on the brakes, front springs and dampers. started as this....

http://i306.photobucket.com/albums/nn266/phill1312/DSC00007-1.jpg

then to this....

http://i306.photobucket.com/albums/nn266/phill1312/DSC00005.jpg

and now got the passenger front fully fitted, the brake just needs some new disks, pads, pluming in and bleading then its done. i was debating what colour to paint the calipers then a xmas song came on radio so i went with this.....

http://i306.photobucket.com/albums/nn266/phill1312/DSC00008.jpg

http://i306.photobucket.com/albums/nn266/phill1312/DSC00009-1.jpg

you can slso see compared to the 1st pic of how much the spring is shorter on the last pics.

thinking tomoro i might quickly do the other spring, damper and caliper then they are done. but then again its alot more likely i wont even do anything to it lol. :thumb:

fue things to update...

got my 40mm throttle body back, happy with it but there was a slight lip where the sleve was so i took the dremmel to it and now it doesnt quite look as good but should do the job nicely!.

http://i306.photobucket.com/albums/nn266/phill1312/seicento/DSC00222.jpg

also pete (Gsr) kindly done a masive road trip to drop loads of things off and was nice enough to bring some of my stuff along as well. :)

induction kit...

Top radiator hose.

http://i306.photobucket.com/albums/nn266/phill1312/seicento/DSC00225.jpg

i also finished off the front brakes calipers and also put the cover plates on that arent in the befor pics, as well as fitting the new springs/dampers, everything is on and brakes are connected up, just need new front disks and pads and then bleeding and thats done.

engine wise its basicly ready to come out. just the drive shafts are left to come out then its ready to drop. 1.2 engine still needs to be cleaned up and painted tho. so best do that befor i get too far ahead.

also wento to put the new p75 (866) cam into the new engine and when i took the rocker cover off i decided to see what cam was in..... only the flaimin 866 cam!! so left that cam in. still need to give it a coat of paint, need some pump sealant so i can fit the new water pump and still need to swop all the other bits over.

i think next thing to do would be sort the lightened flywheel out, and polish up the rocker cover. then that way the fly can go on, gear box can go on and then get all the bits and bobs on and sorted.

anyone got any tips on how to polish the rocker cover up?

right abit of an update.

since iv had exactly the same roter again at work iv done almost nothing yet again with the car, i have however been spending again lol, i have on the way/here, a cybox stainless steel cat back, new red dished stearng wheel, 5x plasma dials, m20 oil sandwich plate, 2 new red bucket seats, 2 red 3 point harnesses, bonnet pins, a upper strut brace

need to tidy the strut brace up ready to go to the powdercoaters on monday, also this should be when i pick up alot of the stuff up from the powdercoaters for the engne bay.

iv also split and modded the headlights with some carbon fibre and i just need to find 5 mins to get them sorted and finished off,

work on the car wise.. been (well trying to) remove the heater and all its workings. also some of the dash is stripped out ready for the dials to be cut in when they come. trying to get all the interior sold so i can fully strip it out, so hopingwhen they go ill have no, front seats, back seats, carpets, sound deadening, rear cards, front cards, front door pockets, seatbelts, parcel shelf, boot floor carpet, boot hatch trim, stearing wheel, airbags, roof lining, a/b/c pillars, rear wiper motor, and anything else i see that wont be needed or replaced.

waiting for my week off to get stuck into it!!!

finished engine bay off today. just needs a hoover and a wipe down befor the engine goes back in, sadly im still waiting for bits to come bk to me so i can finish the engine off till they get here :( which puts it refitting bk abit as well. got to get couple more gaskets, disks, pads and stainless lines for the front brakes and a couple nuts and bolts to replace ones iv ground off. once iv got all that im done on front end apart from obviously engine. canceled the seats and harness's cos they were takin the piss, wheel, guages, pins, and other bits should be with me shortly, strut brace is here and is rubbed down ready for paint.

was thinking about starting the back while im waiting but i dont want to do too much at one time + it means id have all 4 wheels off the car and the ground, i only have 3 axle stands anyway so might as well wait and do it propperly and safely.

quick pic of the engine bay now that its stripped out with no heater matrix, fan, wiring, sensors, ect.

also a quick plan of how the dash will be, since ill only be having 5 guages rather then 6 i think ill put them where the green arrows are, then the bottom radio bit, where the green wire is, will be blanked off.
