If you got given the choice of 'normal' car insurance for テつ」400, or insurance where you have to be back home at a certain time (say 11pm, and can't go out again until 6.30am, for example) for テつ」100, which would you go for? Personally I'd go for the テつ」400 deal, because I hate having extra restrictions placed on me.

ii wouldnt feel in control at all and like dany's says, emergency's ect would be an issue.

Wouldn't work out for me at all, partic for work on evening call out.
this is a no brainer, i'd hate to be resricted on when I can go out...Danny out it the best, ASBO insurance. lame imo

i think norwich union made that for young drivers who cant afford insurance, it is significantly cheaper but i dont like the idea of not being able to drive my car whenever i want, times like a few nights ago when i went for a midnight munch at a 24hr garage :)

Exactly, Mike! It would restrict you in loads of different ways. If you went to a friend's for dinner or something, you'd have to leave at about 10.30! And if you lived in an isolated village, with no train station or regular bus service, you'd be buggered!
I guess you'd get special dispensation if there was an emergency, though. But yeah, it does definitely sound like ASBO insurance to me! Would you believe, my dad walked in half way through when I had this conversation with my mum, and he actually thought I was going to get it!  Not on your nelly!

The other main problem is "What happens if your car is nicked during the period of 11pm and 6.30am" is it still insured????
i imagine you just cant drive between those hours- not that you arnt insured.....

Thanks so much for this topic. I have got to renew my insurance in the next few days and this gave me the idea about gps insurance. The thing is I don't drive between 11:00pm to 6:00am so it is no loss and my old policy was sooo expensive. So I found information on Drive Time car insurance by More Th>n (I have just got off the phone to them) which is not pay per mile but they simply charge テつ」25 if you drive between the 'dangerous hours'. No problem as I hopefully won't have to. Anyway the downside is the excess is an extra 150 compared to my last policy however I have just slashed my renewal by over half a grand. This is no lie and no I don't work for them lol.
If you don't drive between these hours then I recommend it 100% so I have テつ」500+ to spend lol :-)
I know its a bit big brother but at the end of the day money is money and if they can do something with my driving satistics I don't really care if they do or not :o
Hope this helps from Rich :D

I actually think its a good idea, and definately something i would look at. When i get home after work, my car dosent move off of the driveway untill the following morning.
The only massive thing would be if you are going on hols and need to leave early in the morning, but im sure they have something in place so that you are allowed say a certain amount of times you can drive between the specified hours. And if it was going to save me テつ」500 a year, id work around it anyway.

slightly off topic but i dont think it warrants a new topic. i am slightly tempted to go for pay as you go (gps) insurance as it would cost me about テつ」900 for he year as apposed to テつ」1300 for a standard policy. i asked what would happen if i was speeding and he said nothing :) it comes with free sat nav and speed camera detetor built into dash and also acts as a tracker if the car is stolen. what are peoples opinions on the gps insurance?

I'm not sure I like the idea of paying per mile, because what if you got lost, like I did around the Dartford crossing? I ended up going through the tunnel, then over the bridge and through the tunnel again. I paid an extra テつ」2 to get over/under, but how much is the pay per mile thing? I'd have probably paid an extra テつ」5!

about 10p a mile but the first 100 are free. i do about 400 miles a month so itll cost me about テつ」70 a month. i wont be getting lost with the sat nav though :)

 Part of the re route was leading me back over the bridge and under the tunnel again. テつ」2 was wasted! I could have spent that on chocolate
