I tend to use AutoGlym stuff (car shampoo), though I do have a Meguiars polish as well. Use the two bucket method and a decent sponge. Mine's probably not the shiniest but that's what I do :) .

Aye they're a bitch. Clay bar helps get some of the stubborn things off but not even that can get rid of some of mine.

personally i use tesco washing up liquid may sound strange i know, but gives a good sparkle... i have 3 cloths one for detail one for washing one for waxing.... and i feel ur pain bugs are a pain the arse!! also for anyone with a GT and likes ur alloys white i 110% recommend Cilit bang... keeps the dirt away from them for at least 2/3 days.. then they need a good scrub again.. hope this helps :)

cheers mark

Please tell me you're not serious. Your poor paint work.

prewash using zymol shampoo
clay bar (bilthamer) will remove all bugs/tar/sap etc
wash again with zymol
dry
autoglym SRP
collinite 476 wax
megs speed detailer

always use a wash mitt, or a non pourous sponge
two bucket method (one with just clean water in, the other with the shampoo)(shampoo, car, rinse in water etc)

also machine polished ;)

Washing up liquid!?! No, no, no. It will strip all the wax off the paint and the paint work will last half as long as it should do.

DT Contours stuff (3-2-1 kit (http://www.dtconcours.co.uk/1-2-3-kit.php)) is the muts nuts. Not cheap but half a day spent using this stuff every 3 months and you will get (and keep) a mirror shine.

I don't currently use a Clay Bar it looks easy enough, wash car and then clay bar it to get rid of all the crap.

Question is which brands are you guys using & how much are you paying?
any sites or anything?

dude, why worry about claying and polishing a rat car it's meant to be in a mess like.... just wash it with shampoo and leave it, no polish....

Mate all you need is some decent shampoo, a wash mitt, rinse car shampoo, rinse, shampoo, rinse then you a set of microfibre towels say like 4 to step by step dry it, then after that if you really want wax it and clay it. Microfibre towels are the real trick.

Here's what I'm doing for the winter (because the weather is too unpredictable for waxing):

2 x Genuine Lambswool Washmitt - Genuine will have leather inside - Something like: http://www.fasteronline.co.uk/Meguiars-meguiars-lambs-wool-wash-mitt-a7301-p-676.html
1 x Microfibre Chamois - http://www.amazon.com/Meguiars-X2070-Touch-Microfiber-Chamois/dp/B0009IQZKM
2 x Microfibre Waffle Weave - Something like: http://www.amazon.com/Turtle-Wax-TW45200-Microfiber-Drying/dp/B0027LB5TA
Car shampoo - Something like :http://www.meguiarsdirect.com/product_detail.asp?T1=MEG+GOLD+1
2 buckets w/ grit guards. - http://www.cleancar.ie/Grit_Guard.html
1x fairly thick microfibre cloth - Like: http://www.cleancar.ie/plushmicrofibretowel.html
1x microfibre glass cloth - like the ones you get with a pair of glasses, only a lot bigger.

Don't use pressure washer, just a hose.

Wash alloys first. Rinse car, then starting at the top of the car wash one panel at a time and rinse. Once halfway down the car switch to the other wash mitt, wash bottom of car a panel at a time and rinse. Rinse whole car and repeat. Dry off a panel at a time with the microfibre chamois (can start with it dry) wringing as necessary. Then blot drying the rest of the car using the waffle weaves, one for top and one for bottom/wheels. Then wet and wring (until its almost dry) the fairly thick microfibre cloth, and wipe the windows (wringing after each one if theres still water on the windows) and then polish off with the glass cloth. Same for the inside windows.
