I know a topic like this has already been made, but I was wanting to know if you think I should pay for my insurance all in one go, or in monthly installments. If I pay for it in one go it'll be just over テつ」1k, but if I pay for it in monthly installments it'll be テつ」88pcm. What do you reckon?
Kirsty

Personally I would pay it off all in one go, it's one less monthly out going.
Depends if you can afford to do that I guess, but my insurance was only テつ」330.

If you can afford it em, id pay it all at once ;)
I pay lump sum...
1st year was テつ」1222
this year was テつ」704
If you choose not to pay lump sum then ask the insurer about if it will role on into the new premium next year. You may have to call them to cancel after a year otherwise your going with them again at what everprice.

1st yr - テつ」2250 paid in lump sup
2nd yr - テつ」1390 paid monthly then lump sum after 6 months
3rd yr - テつ」850 paid monthly as its only テつ」68 a month :D

I would do it yearly, its Cheaper in the long run, but you need to save for it through out the year.
Think my renewal will be about 350+ extra's ill have 3 years NCB and ill be 24 by the time i renew it next month.
Bram
it all depends on your personal finances and what is best for you emma. we pay it monthly just so we can manage it with our usual outgoings.

b an old git like me テつ」225 fully comp on an 05 vts so i pay it of in lump sum
our renwal quote works out at 56 quid a month with the alloys ect which isnt too bad at all.
Emma make sure you make up a new quote and not just accept their renewal quote they give.
Have you shopped round? is that diffenately the cheapest?
I found for me that fully comp was cheaper than 3rd party.

When I renew it, I'll want: fully comp, plus my dad as a named driver, and 14k a year. The car's a 1.1 SX, no mods, 14k on the clock. When my parents bought the current insurance last year, they said I'd do no more than 8k, so it cost テつ」900 fully comp plus my dad. Only probelm was that as I did more than 8k, I had to keep phoning and making the mileage allowance higher, so in the end it cost more like テつ」1k.
With my finances in the state they're in atm, I'd be better off paying for it monthly, because I haven't saved up.

I always pay in one go, its easier, and cheaper in the long run as you don't pay interest, plus, as Kirsty said, one less out going every month.
テつ」900 for a 1.1 sx at 22 on a provisional licence with Citroen insurance got a テつ」60 rebate when passed test. renewal cost テつ」550 at 23yo.
C4 cost テつ」600 at 24yo, but from a group 1 C2 for a 1.1, to the C4 1.6 coupe, ins. group 6 ,i thought that was good.
Now im 25 and renewal is due next month im hoping for quite a drop in price plus 3yrs NCB.
Although it always pays off to make a few online and telephone quotes as so many different prices between companies.
I phone around 15-20 companies every year then make a final decision, usually swung by the price, and must have UK call centers, i have difficulty with online quotes as it doesn't recognise 1yr NCB on provisional licence from Nov 03 to nov 04. so end up calling for a quote.
I always have comprehensive insurance!

Id pay in one go if you can, its one less thing to worry about coming out of your bank every month.
Also, i wouldn't go for a quote with diamond or sheila's wheels becuase they gave me ridiculously high quotes, both over テつ」1500 for my first car, a 1.1 L reg fiesta where as everyone i enquired at gave me a quote for around テつ」900-テつ」1000. They might say their for girls but they are not for every girl :(

That's true, I tried Diamond and Sheila's wheels and their quotes were outrageous. But when my sister was shopping for insurance, Diamond were the cheapest!

best way to pay for car insurance in imho is annualy in order to escape the evil APR rates that the insurance coys utilise. In effect they you are taking a loan from them to pay for your car insurance at a vastly higher rate of interest than you could get the equivalent loan for from a high street bank.
A good way to get around this, if you haven't got funds available to pay in one lump sum, would be to shop around for a credit card with the longest possible 0% for purchases period then use that to pay off your insurance then pay off you credit card within the 0% period. Obviously, it will take a little shopping around and working out how much you can afford to pay maximum on your card but at least your safe in the knowledge that the already ROBBING insurance companies aren't charging you even more for the overpriced insurance you have to fork out for every year anyway.
Just a thought
I pay テつ」220 on a C2 GT btw, beat that! :D

I pay テつ」450 fully comp
covers my C2 and all the mods from wheels to paint work!
Why do you pay テつ」1k for insurance????????????? ?? ??? ???
Renewal for me will be テつ」500, the Benz will be テつ」550, and thats with a ma-hoosive claim.
Im thinking don't pay it at all. Pay a different company coz you are being ripped right off

you'd be mad to pay over a grand! I don't even pay over a grand on the VTS and my driving record is awful!

Better to pay upfront if you have the money.
You may have already done this, but try these links:
http://www.confused.com/
http://www.moneysupermarket.com/motor/
They'll compare the cheapest quotes for you saving you time and effort.
Its also helpful to add an older 2nd driver. My quote for a vts was テつ」1100 for myself, which came down to テつ」800 with my mum as 2nd driver.

My dad's on my insurance, but when I tried to get a quote for renewal with Tesco, it wouldn't accept that my dad's not made a claim within the last 3 years! :?

I don't understand why there is such a price difference between companies, but at the end of the day its business, and if a company can get over 1K from some mug then they will, profits if you don't make a claim, plus helps to pay for people who smash up their cars whether accident on their part or not as cost of parts is not cheap.
The problem with many repair companies now is oh lets just replace the whole part, not repair or get hold of the bit that has broken.
such as when my headlamp got hit, the light itself is fine, just the back plate with the brackets got broken, so they could have got hold of that instead of a full light assembly costing テつ」120, but i suppose it would be much harder to get one of them rather than a full lamp, so my dads mate repaired it lol.  he's a retired mechanical engineer.
I had a quote by post for the C2, which everyone knows i now don't have from CIS over テつ」900, so would be over 1k for the C4 coupe lol. DONT' THINK SO
well try Citroen insurance, they have always been the cheapest for me.
Plus your better off phoning for a quote, as sometimes the websites don't work properly, although you can get small discounts by buying online.
And as GTstu said "get a credit card with 0% on purchases" then pay off within that period of 6-12 months, there are so many out there to choose from then you are not paying interest to inflate the overall cost of the insurance which costs enough anyway.
I shall be phoning around soon as its due mid Nov.
Rant over, glad i got that off my chest

A good way of getting insurance down is make them price war against one another, say u get insurance for 1k go to another and say "so and so are doing it a テつ」100 cheaper, can you beat it"? you would be suprised the lenths they will go to get your custom!
