The last midlands meet idea crashed and burned, for reasons im not too sure, lol.

We need to have one, would people still be interested, and any new ideas on times or locations, im not liking the idea of Cadbury world again after last time.

Thanks all,
Ste Cozzi (Midlands LAM Official)

P.S. Can Kim plz PM me regarding this, ta x

From past experience the best place for a day out is the West Mildands Safari Park, we've had two good meetings there.

I.E

Meet at park...

Go round the 'safari' in cars...

Walk around the other displays/attractions on foot...

Book ENOUGH tables at The Watermill pub not far away to have food/drink afterwards...

SUCCESS! :)

Last one there was February 2008

2008 Photo's can be seen in my albums here:

people need to be willing to travel or the meets never work. the only reason we used to have such a good turnout to meets is people made the effort to drive a fair way.
everyone wants everything on their doorstep now

kimz_sexi_c2
10-05-2009, 04:27 PM
yeah but some drive 1 n a half hours while others only have a 5mins drive, not really fair is it?

Danny

Going back to the early days, we used to travel anything from 50 miles in a day to 200 plus, people made the effort back then, it seems alot of folk are happy enough to drive down their local car park and thats it nowadays.

Small car park meets are never going to be as interesting as a proper club day out. Click on my signature to view what they used to be like

It would be nice to see people make the effort and get some 'successful' meetings back... it doesnt have to cost an arm and a leg really

We used to get discounts at places for having a group of us too

yeah thats what i want to do, would be good to go bowling or somthing but it should be everyone making the effort to drive not just a couple and the others only having to drive to the nearest place to them, people arnt bothered if they only have to go 5 miles but they soon say they cant make it if they have to travel over an hour like i had to last meet at star city.

Alot of people said they would go but they probably thought it was too far to go, it should be in a central location so its everyone traveling the same amount of time to make it fair then the lads from stoke will come and it will be a great day out.

just a random suggestion but what if we did a smaller meet first so people can get to see and know each other first, they might be more inclined to go on a bigger meet, just an idea

C2 meet at Kimz house then seen as though she's lazy.

As a meet organiser I think you should be prepared to travel furthest, and be more committed upon taking the role.

I know myself and many others have traveled far and wide to attend meets, I've been across the country and it's never bothered me.
So I think if you're going to moan, then don't do it, no one is forcing you, simple really.

im not lazy, call driving 3 + hours to get to the fcs lazy? dont think so, cozzi only traveled 20mins top last time n were working together so i just thought it should be others making the effort too

Greg
10-05-2009, 06:24 PM
They are making an effort, how you don't see that is beyond me. Look at the distances some of the NE guys travel each week, then you'll see people make an effort.

And FCS, some of us have to travel much further than you. People come from Scotland FFS, so take that into consideration.

If you're that bothered, why don't you organise a meet at the end of your street. And watch people turn up to that.

No pleasing women is there.

ok. just like how ppl put used to travel miles to meets never recently thou is there? Jimbo told me loads about meets and showed me loads and loads of pics of decent meets never happen anymore so why travel 900 miles to see 1 other person.

This man has a point *applauds*, people who haven't been to a meet before may feel like an isolated outsider, and local smaller meets I personally think are a good idea, get to know some people... spend an hour so and off you pop home.
I ALSO like he idea of a big meet and i'm more than willing to travel but I think smaller local (more regular?) meets are good too. I've been trying to organise a smaller-ish meet in Derby but i've had **** loads of courseworks to do and have UNI finals coming up over the next few weeks so unless its an evening thing for an hour i'll find it hard to get the time.

The key is in the planning, if its a good place to meet up e.g. West mids safari park, and its well organised then it will be a successful meet. A lot of planning went into the old meets. You need to attract people to it. We travelled quite far to some meets, but that was because of how well it was planned and we were guaranteed a good day out, which made the travelling worth it.

our meet n star city had over 10 ppl on the list but only 5 turned up so u could class that as a mini meet but we were expecting alot more which made it a bit of a let down but i would like to have one every couple of months would be good

gregwVTS
10-05-2009, 07:40 PM
dont blame me for that, I said I couldn't go :P . If we have a mini meet at Pride park then all the stoke, nottingham and derby (and there's quite a few of us) lot can all easily make it (plus anyone else that wanted to travel).

I might be willing to go to the safari park if it was a big meet on not on a work night, which narrows it down to a saturday or sunday before bank holiday haha.

I'll keep checking back to see whats going on but a big meet would be awesome!!! :)

I didnt realise this would spark such debate, but, I think the best thing seems to be is to have a mini meet for the local midlands lot, at star city, then have the 'Official' meet at the Safari Park at an agreed date and get as many people attend to gain interest and attraction.

How do people feel about that? I think that seems the best way forward.

Totally agree, you have to start at the bottom to work your way to the top.

The Cadbury's idea was very good, just BADLY executed being held on a bank holiday. Arranging group discounts by contacting Cadbury should have been done also.

As for previous high attendances, the planning needs to be good, but not only that, there was a lot of commitment from many members a couple of years ago, shown in the Cituning meet with the NE boys and girls, and loads of others.

Star City is a good place to meet, as is the Safari Park, however, people who have been on those meets before won't go on it again, take Southport, 1st one we had 5 cars, then the 2nd we had me Den and Emily, and the 3rd we had 6+ if i remember correctly. Considering Star City and the Safari Park have been done, I would choose elsewhere to be honest, and go out of Birmingham, away from weekend traffic, like The Crooked House in Dudley. It also gives you the chance to go in convoy and avoid it getting split up.

Meets can be just a pub lunch then a drive/photoshoot in the country, having a blast on the country roads, doesn't have to include bowling etc, it is also cheap as some may not choose to eat pub lunches and just have a Coke. Perfect example of this was getting the Cat and Fiddle meet, which had dire attendance, but yet commitment from long term club members.

You have just got to be creative, plan it well, select the right date, research well and market the meet, if you don't? Epic fail imho
