View Full Version : Changing Rear Springs - How to?
Jack it up, whack axle stands in, compress the rear springs with compressors and they will just pop out, 15mins per side really.
Shouldn't have any problems mate, it's really simple. Just don't jack or axle stand on the rear beam.

Hiya
My girlfriend's rear spring on her car snapped not so long ago, so I need to swap it this weeked.
Can anyone give me any tips on replacing the rear springs?
I have got a good idea of what to do, just wondered if anyone else has already done this and encountered any problems?
as greg said. i did the rear in about 2 hours but that was chanign both springs and shocks
the springs almost fall out iv heard if you raise the car high enough lol

Dont have a spring compressor, cant I just undo the shock to drop the rear beam?

buy a spring compressor. the spring will be under immense compression, i dont think it will go very well just dropping it. plus i doubt you would be able to compress the new spring sufficiently to put it back together...

is that the same for dropping coilovers down? use a compressor then turn the keys on the coilovers?

if its a C2 i didnt even have to compress them, They just come loose when jacked right up with a bit of care. We never used spring compressors for the rear when i did my c2.. The clio is pretty much the same.

ive never done a c2, but i helped my mate do the rear springs on his vauxhall chevette HS, and we used a spring compressor as it was a complete mare, we were taking the rear axle off to change the bearings in the diff. all i know is that it would have been impossible without a spring compressor..... i assumed it was the same for the c2, my bad. but maybe it would make it easier than faffing with jacks etc?
