View Full Version : Headunit Power Help
My head unit doesn't power on and off with the ignition, tried swapping the red and yellow wires, but that doesn't work.
It's a mk1 53 reg with some JVC unit in it if that's any help.
Anyone got any ideas? Or is it just not possible.

Sorry mate, didn't see this, must have posted at the same time.
Don't really want to wire it into that, would like a simple solution if possible, if not it'll stay as is.
I had the same issue when I changed from the Nakamichi to the Alpine, I ended up splicing a 12v supply from the fag lighter.
Good luck with it dude!
Cheers Sag, looks like it might have to happen then.

if u wire up the head unit as normal, put yellow to red and red to yelow, then put the window down (so u can hear the stereo) and get out of the car and lock it all up by fob. after about 30 secs radio should go off. if it does this then every time u lock the car up the radio will go off 30 secs after, so ur safe to know u wont come back to a dead battery. failing that just take the front off and itll go off?

That won't work. My Bluetooth unit kept calling to the phone and after a few days would flatten the battery. The only solution is to wire the red to the cig lighter or another switched live.
