Right well ive had my C2 now for about 9 months, and a month or so ago I decided I wanted a small project for it, and because my C2 only has a standard head unit I wanted to install an iPod input.
Not being a fan of aftermarket headunits, and also wanting a bit more of a project I decided to install an iPod input using a separate amp. Also that fact that my dad had a spare amp lying around should of made it an even cheaper way of doing it, however after installing all of the wiring and testing it, we suddenly realised the amp was broken :(
So I started looking around and came across the Edge ED7400, which I liked because it matched my interior lol, and seeing as it was going to be visible in the boot, thought it was a pretty cool idea.
So today it has arrived and just thought I would show u some pics of what ive done so far, it is still an on-going thing as I dont have that much spare time being a student but see what u think

Also ive made a custom iPod holder and sprayed an old iPod usb lead (as a means of charging) orange :P may be a lil ott for some but hey I thought I was a good idea lol my plan is to hide all of the wiring so that the car looks standard until you open the boot lol.

All of the wiring has been run from the boot, behind the rear cards, underneath the door seals and behind the dash. This includes all speaker cabling to tap into the speakers, power and phono leads for the iPod connection. I have also installed a switch on the dash (orange again :P) which is wired to the cigarette lighter, allowing the amp only to be powered when the ignition is on. This switch will then be connected to a relay, which will switch between the headunit and the amp, only allowing one input at a time

Comments welcome

Thanks

....I think the orange USB looks wicked

Good idea to put ya usb on that stand/holder too

Needs tidying up a lttle imho - but good work none-the-less

I would however, be interested in how you have gone about hard wiring to the cigarette lighter - i am working on a new centre console layout and want to hard wire to the cigarette lighter too

Keep the good work going mate

thanks :) ye forgot to mention the amp will be mounted in the side of my boot and all wires will be hidden underneath the carpet :) keeping it nice and tidy.
And to tap into your cigarette lighter power supply, i just used some Snap-Lock Connectors (http://www.maplin.co.uk/Module.aspx?ModuleNo=43076) crimping it around, both the cigarette lighters power supply and the new wire u want to give power, basically it cuts through the shielding on the wire and exposes the cable, allowing the current to flow into the other wire u have attached. :D

thanks guys :) got a few little adjustments to make, such as: the ipod holder needs to sit further back into slot but hopefully shouldnt need too much more work except wiring into the speakers.
should be getting it finished this weekend so hopefully will be able to show u some finished pics early next week.
althou i did have another idea for it the other day, found this bluetooth audio transmitter made by Scosche Universal Kit (http://www.scosche.com/products/sfID1/217/sfID2//sfID3//productID/1529) which goes to an aux so was thinknig bout fitting this bluetooth adaptor in the boot directtly to the amp then buying the iPod Adapter (http://www.scosche.com/products/sfID1/217/sfID2//sfID3//productID/1623) and eliminating the need for a 3.5mm socket on dash (still going to wire one in anyways still handy to have) but thought that might be the next step, can change track up to 30 feet away then :P

dont kno if anyone has had any experience with this kit or anything similar??

thanks

I've got an aftermarket unit, so used cables with that. But have run it right round under the dash and bore a small hole in my cup holder for the wire to come through. The iPod sits perfectly in the cup holder and shows minimal wires.

I'll get some pics in a bit for you.

Yeah, and goes behind the ipod, so you only see the top where it connects.

Cheers, was a bargain at £50 a few years ago now :)

hey so i had a look at this at the weekend, and its gonna be more difficult than i first thought, so ive got a couple of questions.
(hope someone can help)

1. in order for me to wire in an input switch im gonig to need to cut the speaker wires on the back of the headunit to insert a relay. Now ive heard some stuff bout altering the wiring in a C2 so i wanted to kno if this would cause any problems with the car at all. Or if i need to disconnect the battery before doing so, and then just checking the re-connections after the relay, before connecting the battery back up?
2. should this not be a problem, i then want to kno if there is likely do be any problems when i throw the switch for the ipod input, because it will seem, to the CPU, that the connections have been cut from the headunit, because the input will be coming from another source to the speakers.
3. and finally failing all this, how easy is it to install and aftermarket headunit on a MK1? cause im just gna have to suck it up and buy one i think lol is there anything i need to know, like decoding the standard headunit or anything?

thanks
