View Full Version : VTR Sensodrive update - gearbox stops working at 60mph!

I had the latest software update applied to my VTR last Friday. The car now drives much more smoothly and it is very useful being able to use the paddles to change gear without the gearbox switching back to manual. However, since the update, if I exceed 60 mph for more than a few seconds the gearbox sticks in the gear it was in (generally 5th) and the paddles/gearstick no longer work. If the speed drops below the lowest speed for 5th gear then the gearbox seems to reset itself and starts working properly. It can also be reset by switch Auto off and on. I called the dealer and am taking the car back tomorrow for a check up. Has anyone else experienced this or anything similar?

Thanks

My wifes C3 did the same just after the update, all I did was disconnect the battery for the normal 2 mins, then reconnected, turn the igition on and hold down the foot brake, this then re-initallises the gearbox and all was solved, give that a try first.

Thanks Simon. I had considered doing this but, having spoken to the technician who did the update, he suggested bringing it in for a check up first to ensure the software download had been done correctly as the gearbox is reinitialised as part of the update. It is going in today so will let you know how I got on. Apart from this issue the car drives so much better with the update.

The garage re-applied the software update but the problem still persists. The contacted Citroen for some technical advice and their response was to change the gearbox ECU which I understand is about £280 plus 1 hour labour. The garage have requested that Citroen make a goodwill payment towards the cost as it was the software update which caused the problem. I should hear back next week whether they will contribute to the cost. If they don't contribute to the cost I may just live with the problem as it is easily resolved by switching the gearbox to manual.

Simon - I intend to try the reset procedure anyway this weekend to see if it works. Does it require the radio code to be re-entered after the reset? The reason I ask is that the car was supplied without this hence I'll have to get this off the dealer.

Will keep you posted.

The Citroen radios don't have a CODE, so it is a simple matter of just disconnect and then wait and reconnect battery.
