Just had a 30,000 Service and MOT, she passed but I was advised that the pads will need changing in about 5,000 miles, no problem there, but they also told me that the discs themselves would need changing at about the same time, so my question is; is it normal on a 1.4HDi C2 to have to change disc's at less than 40,000?
And before you ask I don't have lead feet

I've got a 1.4Hdi, when I had my 20,000 service I was advised that my disc's were 2/3 gone and would need replacing by my next service.
At the time I said to the mechanic that I wasn't impressed by the lifespan of the disc's, he sort of shrugged and said that's Citroen for you. I haven't replaced them yet but they are on my to do list. Mine is a 55 plate, and has done 34,000.

Just out of curiosity why did you have a 30,000 service? The service interval on the 1.4Hdi is 20,000 miles.

Mines just done 44,000 and needs the discs changing too.

Does anyone know where the best place to get them from?

I'll be getting them done at work, but need the parts. Did you use OEM parts or aftermarket?

I had mine changed at 40K. I think its common for the disks to not last long on C2's. That was last year. I had another service last june and they said I would need to change the pads again!!. C2's are not heavy cars and I cant undetstand why the breaks dont last long. SDA

Just get aftermarket ones mate. I just went to th elocal motor factors and got some from there, not special performance ones just ones that work

Hello Carpy, the book might say 20,000Mls but I don't personaly think oil lasts that long, and as the car had to have it's first MOT and before the warrenty ran out I took it in, if anything major was wrong you never know citroen might have stumped-up, Ha.
In the good old days I drove and thrashed a Mk2 Escort, and when I sold it on with 100,000 on the clock the front disc were sill ok.

I change mine every 10k along with the oil and air filter.

Yo Fella,

If you put a K&N Panel filter in you'll save yourself a fortune at the rate you are changing the air filter, I put one in my Hdi and it cost £40 including postage. I only change the oil and oil filter every 20,000 cos thats what the makers man says. I agree with more frequent oil changes if you are using crap oil, but if you are using good stuff (or at least what the manufacturer reccomends) then It has to last the distance.
Still you pays yer money and yer makes yer choice

Jesus thats bad, my Discovery is 12 years old, I have all the reciepts and a full paper trail of all services and parts ever put on it, and it is at 146,000 miles and only just having an advisory for front DISKS, I have changed the pads once so far since I have had it in the last two years.

In the old days the pads were softer so wore down quicker, but gave off harmful dust. Once upon a time that included asbestos, but not any more.

So, to reduce harmful dust the pads are harder, but the side effect is, as something has to wear down somewhere, discs don't last as long. My VTR's discs and pads are original at 38k but won't last much longer. My wife's Scenic had an advisory on its MOT at 47k for 4 discs and pads.

So I'd say it's normal, but sad.
