...What did you do about the spare wheel situation? Ditch the spare 16" from under the car and find a 17" space saver or invest in some of that fancy aerosol puncture repair type stuff? ...Or take a gamble and roll without a spare?

Ta!

Check the overall diameter of the 17's to see if it's the same as the 16's that were on it. If there is a lower profile tyre on the 17's, then the overall diameter should be the same. This is what keeps your speedo accurate. You can then use the 16 from under the car as a spare. I had 14's on mine originally (1.4Hdi) and I now have 17's on there but the overall diameter is the same due to the lower profile of the tyre and I have used my 14 spare when I had a puncture in one of the 17's with no problem.

Use this link to compare the 16's to the 17's

Ditch the Spare and the cage and get a can of Instant Repair (Only good for small holes / NO good for blowouts)

This will save you approx 15-20 KG of weight hence helping with the power to weight ratio a little, this will then slightly help your MPG.

Thanks for the replies,

Once the wheels arrive I'll check the diameter to see if its possible to use spare 16"

Do you have any idea on the exact weight of the VTS alloys Simon? The ones I'm replacing them with are 9.6kg a wheel according to wheelweights.net
