Hello all,

Another C2 owner here. My name's Mark, I'm 20, and have had my C2 1.4i SX since April this year.

I have little cash to spend on modifying the car, but there are a few things here and there that I'd love to do.

This week, I am buying a Kenwood KDC-BT8041U (http://www.kenwood-electronics.co.uk/products/car/cd_receivers/KDC-BT8041U/) head unit for it, which is a nice start :)

Looking forward to getting to meet some new people through here!

Hello and welcome to the club.

Ensure you get the correct adaptor plugs for the New H/U so that it can be fitted to you MK2 C2. This is because the complex canbus system wiring in the C2 will not directly connect to the new H/U. Also if you are not aware, once you have installed the new H/U you will lose the ability to change your Date and Time on the centre display because all the menus go throug your OEM H/U on the C2. You will also lose the ability to use your volume controls on the steering wheel.

Also forgot to mention you will need an aerial adaptor for the MK2 C2.

Thanks very much for the quick response - it's nice to be made to feel welcome! :)

I have had some queries about this, hence joining the site, so thanks for trying to answer my queries before I've even asked them! lol.

I've looked at the adaptor that I've ordered (here (http://www.kenwood-electronics.co.uk/technologies/stalk_adaptors/stalk_list/caw_ps1200/)) that is for the C2 Mk2. Having looked at the wiring diagram at the bottom of that page, I understand that I may have access to that menu by pressing FFW and RWD simultaneously. Is this possibly the case, do you think?

Any input would be greatly appreciated. Cheers!

Welcome! lovely c2 there! in the best colour to ;) sorry to bump in but simon, is there a way to get the new h/u fitted with the options of still using the centre display and adjusting it? i know theres an adapter 2 buy for the stork controls but wondering if u can stil use the display unit too? and btw i'm on about a mk1 now sorry!

Cheers, it's a smart little motor. First time I've had a Citroen, and have been very impressed with it so far! Stepped up from a Peugeot 106 1.1 (my first car), so having a 1.4 is rather nice. You always want more power though, eh? ;)

I agree, the Poseidon Blue is amazing! It was what made it stand out on the forecourt!

Simon, thanks for the heads up!

I did have a chat with a guy in Halfords about what I'd need for it to function fully. We had quite an extensive chat, and I feel like I can trust him with getting this set up for me - the guy certainly seemed to know what he was talking about!

MK1 Not a problem, you just lose your Radio Channel display from the top screen that is all but your New H/U will display this anyway, the Date and Time can be set via the two buttons on the display at the top, MK2 hasn't got this function and is all controlled through the OEM H/U. But remember once you change your H/U, disconnect the battery for 2 mins and then allow the ECU to reboot, this will prevent top screen freeze when opening the door.

Hi Simon. You seem pretty clued up on this stuff, so I hope you don't mind me picking your brains on this subject?

So, even with this (http://www.kenwood-electronics.co.uk/WebFiles/File/uk/download/Technologies/SWRC/CAW-PS1200.pdf) adaptor (PDF) then I won't have access to the display menu?

Thanks again.

Thanks again. No that adaptor is for MK1 C2's and is designed for the old style H/U and volume controls off the wipe stalk, you need a >05 version for the MK2 C2.

sorry to butt in again, but simon u seem the dude with all the great knowledge so another question relating to the h/u in a mk1, if i was 2 upgrade, how much am i looking at for the adapter to use the stalk controls, any idea where to get one, and also will this interfere with my mpg details switch on the stalk too? thanks alot :)

Are you aware of one that exists? And if so, where I could get one?

This is the one designed for a MK2 also you will find the Aerial adaptor there.

http://www.nexxia.co.uk/Car_Stereo_fitting_kits/Citroen/c2.htm

Another option that a few have done is to remove the storage tray from under the H/U and to install the new H/U there, wire the speakers to your new H/U and then get a switched and perm supply to the New H/U this then allows you to access menus still with the original H/U.

Quite a few members on here have had alot of trouble getting a new H/U to work correctly using the C2's original volume stalk controls.

I see. Okay, well failing everything else, I may just keep the old H/U in there then. Thanks very much for your help, and the link! Cheers.

MK1 C2 will not lose any of the MPG/FUEL etc controls if you change the H/U, BUT it is very hard to get the original volume / channel controls to work with a new H/U on a MK1, a few have had them work BUT not for long, the complex ECU controls seam to block the signals after a bit and stop the functions working. This is all due to it is not hard wired to the H/U and all functions are diverted through the ECU first before the signal is sent down the wiring to the H/U.

If you understand what I am on about. :-(

Right off home now, just finishing work, and about to down a few beers when I get in, lol.

No problem here to help out a little, I am sure a few more on the site will also guide you in a direction for places to buy the correct adaptors.

yes it did! and thanx again Si. :) I've been trying 2 find out 4 a while about that now. Halfords were as helpful as a chocolate fireguard tbh. Anyways... what are your other plans 4 the c2 then Mark? tints? alloys? anything?

avaris15
08-10-2008, 01:01 AM
Well, as with anything, money is an issue... I'd love to get tints. Some nice alloys - nothing too fancy, but anything is better than those Citroen hub caps! lol.

Am keen to get some decent speakers in there, but that is something that I have no clue about (another reason for joining up here)

The H/U was one of my priorities, as it kills three birds with one, rather expensive stone. I get a new H/U (yay!), it solves my handsfree issue, and I have my whole music collection available to play from my iPod!

I see you are a fan of the Poseidon Blue too! How long you had yours?

And yeah, thanks again Simon. Enjoy the beer!

I'm sure that if I ask in ICE, somebody will be able to give me a more definitive answer. Perhaps somebody who has first hand experience with the setup on the Mk 2.

Very nice indeed! It's funny that you've shown me that tonight. Only today was I thinking about how good blue canipers would look on my C2 - and now you have managed to show me how awesome they look! How much did they set you back?

Really like what you've done with it. I'd probably go with a more "subtle" approach with mine though. Not too much in to the mod scene... just yet :P
