View Full Version : National Camping Meet 2006

OK I wasn't going to mention this till after Christmas, to give you something to look forward to after the bills arrive.
But our dear leader's dear wife has "outed" me and brought it into the open.
So, the National Camping Meet 2006 will be held 26-29 May 2006, which is the BH weekend and also half term.
Holding it over several days means that hopefully more people will bother to come if it's a long way, or they will come different days if they are working over the weekend.
Here's where we camped this year. (http://www.beehivefarm-woodlandlakes.co.uk/caravan_and_camping_site.html)
Advantages: central, tolerant management, flat field, mini zoo for the youngsters, cafe, free showers, fishing lakes.
Disadvantages: toilets too small, few local facilities.
The procedure will be the same as the 2005 Meet i.e. book with me and pay upfront, so I can confirm numbers with the site (especially relevant in 2006 as it's a BH weekend).
However I'm not wedded to this site if anyone's got any better suggestions? Also I could do with someone volunteering to help me with some of the other parts, like site finding, cruise route planning, itineraries, local attractions etc. so we can have more organised activities as per the Cheshire meet. Otherwise we just sit around saying "what shall we do now, then?"
So, get thinking! But most important of all, put 26-29 May 2006 in your diaries/phones/PDAs etc. 'cos you're coming camping!

Friday to Monday?
Alot of people will be working i imagine on the Monday and Friday :(

I don't mind helping out Jerry, but i guess it depends on location.
Someone within the local area where we will be camping might be a better choice. I have knowledge of this area (near to Beehive Farm) but as this is not confirmed, then maybe wait and see where the final location is.
It is a fair drive to some places of interest from Beehive Farm, as it's stuck out in the countryside.
We're there where ever it is Jerry!!

When it is confirmed me and Joe will definately come, we will just book those few days off work.
I wouldn't mind going to Drayton Mannor, for a day out, that's not too far away from there is it?......just a suggestion :D
Danny
29-11-2005, 08:31 PM
Yes Kay, Drayton Manor is about 3-4 minutes drive from me :)
About £20 each to get in for wristband which includes the zoo!
Sound like cracking fun, see u there :)

01-12-2005, 07:28 PM
I picked those dates for the bank hol and school half term, so hopefully no exam clashes for anyone. Also you can come for as long or as short as you like (1-3 nights) depending on your cashflow/other arrangements/work/exams etc.
To get loads of people spread over the 4 days would be great too!
musicaldesigner
02-12-2005, 07:29 AM
Yes i shall make myself available for all 4 days , (as said above if i am welcome) LOL.
Come on people lets make this the biggest meet ever :!:

Must speak to Jody again about it...
I'm not good enough for you any more Jerry?! ;)
That is slap bang in the middle of Uni exams I think, but I'll do my best to be there, albeit not for the full 4 days.

Right you lot. Thinking caps on please.
The weekend I've proposed is the BH weekend. That's good because people will have more time off hopefully, but bad cos the campsites and any attractions we might go to will all be very busy and may be more expensive.
So I was thinking instead of mid-July time (which is also my birthday weekend, but at my age that's best not celebrated LOL). Can the students among us tell me when their exams are, and when they break up? If they break up earlier than the schools in July, then that weekend would be good cos it'll still be relatively quiet. The downside for me is that I can only attend from the Fri evening (possibly) or Sat morning, to Sunday night. People are welcome to stay longer but I won't be there to organise/cajole/nag/supervise, whatever.
Thoughts? 100 different opinions required please, with no consensus LOL.
Thanks!
Jimbo

All I know Jerry that my results at MMU are out in late June, so anytime after that, but I think I am on my hols in mid July :(
No 2 of 100:
I'd pref. the meet to be the BH, as its closer, and ive got time off then, and i might still have money for beer.
Why dont we have another meet after the BH :) and a rolling programme of meets at various locations for the rest of the yr.

i agree with ste for the BH! be able to stay a little longer then!! last time i think we all found it just wasnt long enough.

No 4 of 100:
I too agree it should be BH weekend, should easily be able to get that off work. Prices shouldn't go up that much. Would be better too as most people should be able to stay for longer :D
#5 of 100:
mid-july for the win. better weather, universities kick out mid-june latest, people at college/sixth form should also be free then.
could do friday-sunday, people trudge down after work/whatever on friday, pissup friday night, arrange something to do on saturday, pissup sat night, convene and depart on sunday.

but jaimz at the last one you were being Mr Sensible! Not drinking too much because of driving the next day!! Not that there is anything wrong with that! :)
I still say BH, i guess we need to do it when the most people are going to come, Dont we??
sue
x
kinda referring back to point 3!!
oh and one other thing, it wasnt bad where we went last time, they are quite understanding about leaving a little later on the last day, very helpful (told me where to find asda and tesco's to buy a duvet)!! :) maybe we can get a point with an electric hook-up this year (mother-in-law just bought trailor tent stuff and we can steal her electric point thingy), might be able to take better pix of drunk people falling off chairs and generally falling over!! (not going to mention any names at this point!)
And not one complaint about any noise we were making but that might have been because "Dad" kept telling us all to be quiet!!! But being more noisey telling us to than we were to start with!!
Anyway my view! :P :)

Just had a quick read of most of these posts and it sounds like a good idea to me. I would be up for going.
I am easy about the dates. BH would be great as you get a bit longer. But july will have the weather. Tough decision
Just let me know what is decided, how much and where.

Excellent W! All welcome.
it is a fantastic weekend. i think we should tie it in with the fench car show weekend, that would be cool.

Back on topic now please ;)
People at the meet today all seemed interested in camping.
Draft itinerary looks like:
Fri pm: arrive, bbq, beer, pub etc.
Sat day: Cruise to French Car Show
Sat eve: as Fri
Sun day: Go somewhere else e.g. Twycross Zoo, Alton Towers etc.
Sun eve: as Fri
Mon am: go home poor and happy
I'm getting round to thinking that last year's venue, Beehive Farm (http://www.beehivefarm-woodlandlakes.co.uk/caravan_and_camping_site.html) will be the best again, as it's quite close to Bruntingthorpe for the FCS and I can't be bothered to traipse around looking for somewhere better. The FCS fella tells me there's no camping at the show anyway. Beehive Farm looked after us really well last year. I've emailed them for prices, availability etc.
I'm looking for someone else to coordinate the FCS bit, especially as some people today thought we should have a stand at the show!
Can anyone design me a C2Club flag? I also need to find someone who can print it for us, and of course lend or make us a flagpole!
I'll start collecting definite names and camping fees in due course!
Thanks
I can possibly sort the flag, one of my friends his dad owns a print studio. I will also deal with FCS, they have already emailed me regarding prices, i will try and find the email.
TBH i am not sure on having a stand, too much organising etc.
Jeremy_VTR
14-01-2006, 09:13 PM
Thanks Jody! Result x3!
I'll sort out all the camping stuff.
A job for Danny please, as he lives near Beehive Farm: the pub nearest the campsite doesn't like us cos we booked a table for 14 for lunch then cancelled it at short notice. The only other pub in the village is too small for loads of us. So can you find us a decent pub nearby that's big enough for us all - pref within walking distance. Family friendly would also be great for any kids who are going (i.e. Miss DG). If that's ok mate? Thanks.
Peter MusicalDesigner has agreed to help me at this end too.
Danny
15-01-2006, 05:15 PM
I can search for a pub, no problem. :)
But being as the location of Beehive is quite remote, that may be a problem to find one within walking distance. I guess most of the few local Pubs won't have enough room if the number of attendee's is high.
Leave it with me and I will have a good search in the next day or two.
;)

Last year I took payment via PayPal or cheque, then settled up in one go at the end of the meet.
This year - probably same again though if more people come for a variety of numbers of nights it could get complicated!
I've not heard back from the site yet either so I can't advise prices yet.

people people!! Sorry Jerry if i've trod on ure toes!! I've just spoken to the campsite and they have confirmed they have plenty of availability for that weekend, and prices are going to be comfirmed by email later on when he has it working (hense him not replying Jerry). A 2 birth tent will be £10 per night, 4 - 6 birth £12 a night and and 8 birth £14 per night. Gazebos at £1 extra per night. not much different in price form last year, he's very happy to accomodate us and I have said that Jerry who arranged it all last year should be doing the same thing again this year!
Sorry again for intruding but just being sat on my a*se thought i'd call them quickly!!

Jeremy_VTR
19-01-2006, 04:19 PM
Thanks Sue!
Last year I added a bit on to the basic price to cover two risks, so I wasn't out of pocket:
- extras like gazebos etc in case the campsite charged more
- PayPal fees.
So last year £10 became £11. This year probably £12 cos PayPal stung me more than expected.
If only I had nothing to do all day Sue! Is all the washing, cleaning, cooking, ironing etc. all done then? ;) xx
er no, its not done!! :(
you charge what you like mate!! i know we get charged 36p in every £4 sticker we sell!! so those wanting to stay from friday to monday, will be £15 per night (in a 4 birth) £45 for full weekend!!??!!
just checking and you can let me know paypal addy for us to send it to you!!
Can you remind us of the cancellation rule please Jerry!?! ta.

To quote Jerry from last years meet, in order to avoid trawling through posts here are what was the rules were:
Rules
I'll tell you the site rules now so you know what to expect:
1 5mph speed limit
2 Cars only to be driven by people with full licence and insurance
3 All children to be supervised at all times
4 NO LOUD MUSIC
5 Dogs must be kept on a lead at all times
6 No ball games or kites around caravans
What do I do now?
I've got to make a commitment to the site that we're coming, and give them an idea of numbers. So what you need to do now is tell me if you're coming, and how many in your party, do you have a tent, fridge, gazebo etc.
Cancellation
If the event is cancelled or you cancel up to a fortnight before then you'll get your deposit back. If you don't turn up, or cancel in the last fortnight, you forfeit your deposit. I hope you think that's fair. I don't want to get exposed to having to pay for you if you don't turn up.
I know it's all a bit formal and serious but that reflects the amount of organising that's required. I want you to come and have a great weekend, meet some friends, and have a few beers and a laugh and enjoy yourself.
Suggestions for what we can do when we're there also welcomed!
Can you try to keep this thread related to the meet, and if you want to go off on a tangent then start a new thread.
Please note these rules may be modified at any time, between now and this years weekend being confirmed.
I hope this helps :D
126 days to go!!

Been listing all the things to buy between now and then (so we're a little more organised this year Jerry, wont be imposing on your kettle as much)!! There was us thinking last year that tent would only be used once, and oh now we're using it again, for the same kinda meeting and in the same venue!
Oh and BTW those that need to buy a tent, LOADS of us last year went and bought them from argos, right bargain!
Sue
woohoo!! another one voted, thats 9 coming!
BTW there is a 2 person tent starter set in argos £44.99. kay and joe bought the 4person set last year i think!

Sue I've voted at least twice, cos my vote resets every day. But there will be three of us so I suppose that's ok.
I bet if Den and Em come for the day, they'll enjoy themselves so much they'll really wish they didn't have to go home that night.
I reckon all the girls should share one tent - Mrs DG, Sue, Kay, PinkEmily, Rachel, Christoff's g/f etc. I say no more, but leave it to Danny to fill in the rest... ;)

Got an email back from the camping man. He's reserved a site for us with an electric hookup, if anyone's got an electric fridge they'd like to bring?
He's building a toilet block which won't be ready in time, but he expects to have a portable unit there instead. Looks like he wants a deposit so I'll let you know if I need money earlier. I'll ring him tomorrow to agree prices.

I hate using the phone. I've spoken to the campsite manager.
His prices:
2 berth tent and 2 people £10 per night
3-6 berth and 2 people £12 per night
7-8 berth and 2 people £14 per night
Child 3-16 £1 per night
Extra adult £2 per night
Dogs/extra car/gazebo £1 per night each
My prices will be £2 per tent per night higher, for the following reasons:
- my costs (e.g. PayPal fees, phone calls etc.)
- breakages/extra charges etc. that the site may levy on me.
The campsite's website is here (http://www.beehivefarm-woodlandlakes.co.uk/caravan_and_camping_site.html), and it's location is here (http://www.beehivefarm-woodlandlakes.co.uk/location_map.html).
The campsite has got fishing lakes (small charge), a kid's adventure playground and animal farm (small charge), a cafe, shop, and decent toilets and showers. Nearby are villages with pubs and a Co-op.
They said they'd rope off a section for us and we could erect gazebos (if anyone's got one?) and they would lay on electrics for us to run up to two fridges/coolers etc. at no extra charge.
If you're coming I'd like some money from you to show your commitment. I'll calculate your charge based on what you tell me above, and ask for 50% now and 50% nearer the time. I need to send the campsite manager a goodwill deposit in the next week or so.
Cancellation
If the event is cancelled or you cancel up to a fortnight before then you'll get your money back. If you don't turn up, or cancel in the last fortnight, you forfeit your money. I hope you think that's fair. I don't want to get exposed to having to pay for you if you don't turn up.
I know it's all a bit formal and serious but that reflects the amount of organising that's required. I want you to come and have a great time, meet some friends, and have a few beers and a laugh and enjoy yourself.
How do I pay?
PM me for my email address if you want to PayPal me, or my postal address if you want to send a cheque.
Who's doing what, and can I help?
Jeremy (me) - managing the contact with the campsite manager; looking after the money
Peter (musicaldesigner) - helping me; planning an itinerary for the weekend
Danny (blue05furio) - looking for a decent pub nearby where we're not barred (!); finding things for us to do nearby
Sue (jody) - nagging more members to come along; giving girly advice about duvets and hairdriers
Jody (jody) - Club flag and pole; French Car Show liaison
I don't want too many people involved because it may get out of hand and things may get forgotten but if you have a special skill you can offer that will help us, please PM me.
musicaldesigner

Well that's knocked this thread off the front page, hasn't it? Mentioning money!
LOL
Come on - a few quid deposit each, say £10, would get the ball rolling. I've got to send a modest deposit to the campsite, so if you want to come camping, it's time to put your money where your mouth is.
Thanks

woohoo!!
right fcs....
we can have a stand and all we need to pay is the price of pre-booking our tickets (£10 per person, free fpr under 14's).
What I can do is register the club with them then you can book your tickets directly with them and just mention our club to park with the stand, you will be issued with a clud window pass with your ticket, This pass authorises entry from 7am!! (i know scary thought), but No club pass = public car park!!
You can also buy 0-60 passes; unlimited 0-60 pass @ £20 each and a single use 0-60 pass @ £5 each.
Now should i register the club with the fcs??
Sue
p.s and there is club awards 1st prize £500 2nd prize £300 and 3rd prize £200. The clubs will be judged on the following categories; Originality (entertainment etc), preperation and organisation, layout of stand nd presentation of vehicles!
just condering did the alton towers idea get dropped??
Sue
i like alton towers go there :P
i second that, but i will go with the majority!!
Sue
ur the boss rnt u :P shudnt even think of the majority :P
well i think pre-booked tickets for alton towers will be about £22!!! So i think that might turn out to be an issue but we still have a day we need to cover! And i havent been there in years (Jody was a big fat wimp and i had to drag him on oblivion and nemesis!!)
Sue
Danny
01-02-2006, 10:13 AM
Alton towers is about an hour max from Beehive, we would need to set off early to avoid the LARGE queues!
I imagine we would be looking at around £25 each to get in there ;)
we might well be able to get a group booking discount, but wouldnt know until March, might save the queues if we can book before!!
Sue
Danny
01-02-2006, 10:21 AM
Pre booking would be easier but and a group discount but a lot of people want know if they are going camping till the last minute, knowing from previous meets where a lot havent turned up :(
thats a god point i guess
well the park doesnt open until march 19th so i will only be able to find out then, i dont know their policies on how far ahead we have to book, might only have to be 21 days and those that are going should know 21 days before!
Anyway its not even been decided that its even an option, i appreciate it is expensive which might be an issue for some!
Sue
i went last year and i think it could have been about £20 each so i agree that cost could be a problem...im sure danny can pay for us all tho :P
Danny

i went last year and i think it could have been about £20 each so i agree that cost could be a problem...im sure danny can pay for us all tho :P
I thought i paid around £18-30 last time i went in 1999 8O
Im sure its about £22 in the last couple of years so maybe gone up again!
Money not a problem but to a family (i.e. Jerry & Co) it aint gonna be cheap.

Have you heard Pete's musical tastes? I'd rather not thanks!
Mrs DG had mentioned Twycross - I think she and Miss DG will do that on Sun if we're at the FCS. Maybe do Alton Towers on the Saturday? I know they want to go there too, and being selfish I'd rather go to FCS and AT rather than FCS and the zoo (where we went last year anyway).
I like Sue's idea of a club stand. So basically we get in for the same price, and get to park together in a better place, and people come up to us and say how great we are? Cool. Maybe we could use the 0-60 track to settle the GT v VTR debate once and for all. And I can prove that I can play air-guitar from 0-60! Wow!
Pete and I are getting together tomorrow night to start to plan an itinerary. On the basis that if we ask everyone we'll get a million different opinions, we'll consider what everyone has said then just do what we want anyway haha!
yes ive heard peters taste in music..... no further comment
I'm just going to put my vote in for Alton Towers on the Saturday!! As long as there is some company for me on the big rides!! (Jerry keep ure thoughts to ureself!)

Meeting Jerry at my office, the pub this evening so shall tell him to be a good boy and not embarrass the innocent female folk at the camping weekend with his vulgar comments, being a family man he should know better LOL
so you have added samward as an extra atendee :!:
I have added christoff under your instruction for entertainment over the weekend.  prevention for this behaviour don't get drunk LOL  :P
i never mentioned anything about Sam and entertainment! She is my shy innocent cousin!!
I mention Chritoff as last year he drank so much he litterally fell unconcious, off his chair and escorted to the tent by his missus!!

Sue, sorry about the geographical confusion. Herts it is!
Christoff's Mrs (who had already gone to bed before he fell off his chair) then completed the evening by withdrawing her services, getting dressed and coming back out to play with the boys while he slept it off! Good girl! Hope she's coming this year too.
Sue, assuming no extras like kids, gazebo etc. then it's £42 less £10 deposit = £32 please, but no rush, it's not till May!
Anyone else who wants to come, PM me for PayPal addy or my postal address to send a cheque to.
Thanks
we were thinking of getting a gazebo so i guess that would make it, £35??
It might not be til the end of May but i'm excited NOW!
